Chandan Hospital Launches Robotic Hip Joint Replacement System

Lucknow: In a breakthrough for orthopedic care in Uttar Pradesh, Chandan Hospital has introduced the globally acclaimed Mako Robotic Arm-Assisted Surgery System, making Lucknow one of the few cities in India to offer such advanced precision surgery.

With over 600,000 procedures already performed worldwide using the Mako system across 1,500 hospitals, this FDA-approved American technology is now available locally, revolutionizing joint replacement surgeries in the region.

Dr. Naveen Srivastava, Joint Medical Director and Head of the Orthopedic Department at Chandan Hospital, called it “a new era in surgical treatment.” He explained that the Mako system uses 3D modeling tailored to each patient’s bone structure, allowing surgeons to create precise preoperative plans and receive real-time feedback during surgery. This helps avoid unnecessary damage to nearby bones or soft tissues and ensures a highly controlled procedure.

The hospital is now performing Total Hip Replacement (THR), Total Knee Replacement (TKR), and Unicompartmental Knee Replacement (UKR) surgeries using this robotic-assisted approach. Unlike traditional GPS or optical tracking-based navigation systems, Mako technology enables intra-operative customization based on patient-specific anatomy, increasing accuracy and improving outcomes.

One of the key features is the use of robotic cutting guides, which make bone cuts with remarkable precision, leading to safer procedures, less pain, and faster recovery.

Dr. Srivastava emphasized, “This is not a luxury — it’s a right every patient deserves. These surgeries are covered under most health insurance plans, and we are working to integrate them with government health schemes to ensure no one is denied access due to financial constraints.”

With this development, Chandan Hospital is setting a new benchmark in orthopedic care, combining cutting-edge technology with patient accessibility, and redefining the future of surgery in the state.
